The Software

Premium Data is designed to work under the Windows environment. We recommend that the following minimum hardware and system requirements be present to allow the software to perform:

  • Pentium microprocessor
  • CD-ROM Drive
  • Windows 98 SE (or higher)
  • 200MB of free disk space
  • 64MB of RAM
  • Internet access (28.8 Kbps modem speed or higher)

The screenshot below provides an insight into how the software operates. The update command has been just been executed and the resulting report shows that everything is up to date.

Users may attempt to update whenever they like and as often as they like. There are no restrictions. When the program connects to our data servers, it checks your subscription level and then supplies any data that hasn't as yet downloaded. If you have been away on holidays, the intervening period will be filled in automatically.

The service employs two data servers. If one server happens to be down, or no route to it can be found, simply switch to the other server.

Custom Folders

One of the attractive features of the software is its ability to create custom folders. These allow a user to move beyond the traditional A-Z database structure and create groups of securities for focused analysis.

For instance, a custom folder could be created that holds only mining stocks, or only those stocks in a certain index, such as the S&P/ASX 200 or NASDAQ 100. Premium Data supplies pre-defined groups as part of the service, but users can create any number of their own simply by entering security codes into text files.

Custom Folders are especially useful in conjunction with third-party software packages such as MetaStock TM that have screening or exploring facilities.

For more information about Custom Folders, see the section on ASX Custom Folders or visit the relevant Premium Data Help & Support page.

Top Movers

Subscribers to ASX data can see a summary of the day's top movers (either on the hour or at the close of trading). There are two categories of top movers - the top 20 in the S&P/ASX 100 and the top 20 for the entire market.

One Click Data Backup

The software includes a one-click database back-up/restore facility, to help out in the important task of keeping valuable data on your computer safely backed-up.
